ITS Nationals World Congress Meeting Los Angeles, USA
The ITS Nationals meeting was conducted at the ITS International Congress in Los Angeles on September 21, 2022. There were ITS country representatives from 17 different nations.
The discussion focused on the ITS regional status from all countries’ representatives. The key revisions focused on lowering emissions, enhancing safety, increasing equity, and shifting from efficiency to safety. by utilizing C-ITS in conjunction with V2V and V2I.
A new ITS 2030 plan was announced in Korea. The strategy calls for automated driving by 2027, with an emphasis on how C-ITS will minimize pollution and fatalities. A new ITS 2030 plan was presented last year. The proposal calls for automated driving by 2027.
Singapore has been guided by a master plan for the year 2040. The goal is for everyone to be able to get into the city in 45 minutes.
Norway now has an EV adoption rate of 16-17%. In 2025, it will be illegal to sell fossil-fuel vehicles in the personal market, and this will shortly be extended to all markets. In addition, a new project to measure KPIs with the road administration has begun.
In addition, an informative presentation titled “Global Digitization of Transportation” was given by Monali Shah shahmonali, Head of Industry Solutions, Google Public Sector, with the following keynotes: The purpose of Google is to organize the world’s information and make it available to everyone. Google is now detecting what is going on around us. Maps, for example, aid in understanding the physical environment. The traveler’s experience has received a lot of attention. How do we assist the authorities in charge of the infrastructure, as well as businesses in bringing the power of technology to their users?
Working with Hamburg and New York City to collect data on air quality, Google wants to use that data-driven approach to determine how to carry out certain tasks. The purpose was to collect data to better understand the health implications and locations of electrification. Google has also been working on climate resiliency. Numerous extreme weather events have had an influence on our transportation network. They are making decisions about resiliency investments using Google Earth Engine. Take that climate risk and examine how it affects the road network, such as road conditions or the number of routes to a certain community. The goal is to offer that ease to users who aren’t data scientists.
Another example is buses that collect video data and then use machine learning algorithms to detect and predict pavement issues. On the map side, Google powers multiple mobility services, which can develop KPIs and use cases to empower these new services where demand and supply can be matched in real-time. Google is trying to identify open parking spaces in Asia and wants to assist authorities in becoming more proactive. They had seen areas with excessive speeding, so Google used connected vehicle data to reveal that there were instances where speeds were sometimes more than 30 MPH higher than they should have been. The proactive use of data with the associated AI tools can help solve more and more ITS issues in the future.
